  Jeffrey Fuerst talks about John Burroughs in early life. Jeffrey Fuerst goes on to share some of Burroughs's writing and tells about him becoming an author. Jeffrey Fuerst explains that John Burroughs grew up on a farm in Delaware County, New York. After John Burroughs is done with his course, he went to a special place he later called “Boyhood Rock.” Jeffrey Fuerst makes examples of Burroughs’s descriptive writing by adding excerpts from John Burroughs. Jeffrey then gives an example of John Burroughs personification. Jeffrey Fuerst starts telling things that a good storyteller must do. Then, he went on by adding one of the excerpts that Burroughs wrote. Jeffrey Fuerst states that Burroughs was a lifelong nature writer who kept his eyes, ears, and heart open. Then Jeffrey stated one of Burroughs's writing when he wrote towards the end of his life, “The summit of the Years”.

  In the fiction excerpt titled “Come Away, Come Away,” (from Peter Pan/Peter and Wendy) Peter first enters the room looking for his shadow with Tinker Bell making sure not to wake the children in the room. Tinker Bell said that Peter’s shadow was in the big box. Peter jumps at the box which meant the chest of drawers taking everything out of them and finding his shadow, closing Tinker's bell up in the drawer. Peter tries to stick his shadow back on with soap, but when the soap doesn’t work, Peter begins to cry. Peter’s crying awakens Wendy, and the two of them introduce themselves to each other. Wendy learns that Peter lives in a strange, faraway place.  Next, Peter reveals that he does not have a mother and does not want one. Then he tells Wendy he cannot attach his shadow.  Wendy sews Peter’s shadow up to his foot. Finally, Peter tells Wendy that girls are more useful than boys.

  In the fiction excerpt titled “Stanley’s Release, an expert from holes”, they talked about an adolescent boy, Stanley, who is punished for a crime he didn’t commit and was sent to a boys’ jail detention center. This story stated that Stanley will soon see his parents. Stanley was exhausted, so he got something to drink and eat from Mrs. Pendenski. Stanley drank the juice but did not feel like eating, so he did not eat. Then, the Warden quickly discovered that Stanley had put his things from his cabin inside Stanley’s suitcase. The Warden said Stanley has to open the case, but Stanley’s lawyer said to not open it. The Warden and Stanley’s lawyer argued for a long time, but Stanley did not move. Lastly, the Attorney general said that Stanley is free to go, but Stanley did not want to leave his friend, Hector/zero, so he stood there.
